Geary, Lori. “MARTA Pushing for Largest Expansion in History.” WSBTV. 20 July 2015. Web. 11 Apr. 2016. In this article that was published by WSBTV, it talks about how badly MARTA wants to make the biggest expansion in history. In ordor to make this happen it would cost $8 billion dollars. Although this expansion would cost tax payers a lot of money, MARTA chairman Robbie Ashe sees this as an opportunity to promote economic growth and to help fill jobs. This new expansion would extend rail lines to parts of North Dekalb, Alpharetta, and parts of South Dekalb. MARTA rider Belinda Morrow explains to how she is sick of having to sit in traffic for long periods of time to get to work. She tells Lori Geary that she would much rather be sitting on MARTA reading a newspaper while on the way to MARTA. Although there are many people pushing to get this expansion completed, there are also many people that do not want to get this expansion completed.  As apart of my research over the built environment I have uncovered that one of the major reasons that many people living in Georgia do not want MARTA to expand is because an expansion would provide easy access to the suburbs. Many wealthy people do not want this because it enables minorities and poor people to have a better opportunity to take suburban jobs and move into the area. Although this is a big issue among taxpayers, MARTA hopes to have the sales tax issue on the ballot in 2016. This could be a big success for the city...

Reading Summary #5: Emily Bazelon – “Making Bathrooms More Accommodating” Historically, the world has always been a place that has been tailored to accommodating the male gender. We were simply put here to work, make money, and have a woman to support us in almost every other aspect of life. Now, more than ever, this is changing drastically. Woman, finally, have equal rights, and are on the verge of being treated exactly the same way as men always have been. The article by Emily Bazelon takes this a bit further and introduces our necessity to treat men, woman, AND non-gender identifying individuals the same way, in particular accommodating then in their needs of acceptance in the bathroom and other physical areas that are historically looked upon with no sort of grey area. This article begins by noting that bathroom signage is the clearest visual marker of sexual difference. It is slowly being accepted to allow girls who identify as male to join male teams but allowing them in the male bathroom is another entirely different issue at hand (Bazelon lines 21-25). The main word used in this clear and apparent act of separation is “accommodation”. It stems from our early stages of civil rights movements, to allow African Americans to sit anywhere they please on a bus or use any water fountain/bathroom they deserve.   I believe the strongest statement made in this article is by, Mara Keisling, Co-Founder and Director of the national Center for Transgender Equality, and she summarizes her point that in order to have a civil society, it must start with accommodation. The authors of this academic journal talks about different things dealing with perspectives of gender roles and how people develop those ideas. But I will elaborating on how people use their perspectives on gender towards their kids and the decisions they make for their kids bedrooms. The authors explains how people perceptions of everything in the world comes from family, friends, social beliefs and own beliefs. Even the smallest thing like what colors boys/girls should and should not wear comes from those influences. Gender differences starts early in a child’s life. The boys will have car toys, building toys, and sport equipment in their bedrooms.The girls will have dolls, dollhouses, and cooking equipment in theirs. The children are too young to pick the things they want in their rooms so their parents take on the responsibility to pick for them. Suzanne Tick Suzanne Tick is “the creative director for Teknion Textiles, design consultant for Tandus Centiva, and the founder of Suzanne Tick Inc.” Tick states that “Identity is no longer clearly defined as female or male, but by increasingly visible manifestations of sexuality or lack thereof” ( Tick par. 1). One example of how gender is slowly becoming undefined is how “Alexander Wang’s women’s coat from Fall 2015 has masculine tailoring with a military look, while Annemiek van der Beek’s Primal Skin makeup line has been designed to be appealing to the male buyer” (Tick par. 5). In some education systems, they accepting gender to be “unspecified.” Public bathrooms in large companies like Google are being developed as unisex. The purpose of this article to encourage designers to create infrastructures, clothing styles, and other designs to accommodate for the new “wave” known as post gender.  The intended audience are designers.
