“Central Atlanta Progress | Atlanta Downtown Improvement District.” Central Atlanta Progress | Atlanta Downtown Improvement District. Central Atlanta Progress, Inc, n.d. Web. 25 Mar. 2016. <http://www.atlantadowntown.com/>. The Oakland Cemetery is maintained by The Historic Oakland Foundation, founded in 1976,and the city of Atlanta. They work “to preserve, restore, enhance, and share Oakland Cemetery with the public as an important cultural resource and as an island of tranquility in the heart of the city.”  The website is ideal for those planning on visiting the cemetery as it provides history to events to helpful tips like hours and maps. It is also helpful to those looking to support or work with the cemetery. The website was helpful to me entering the space because I was made aware of some of the architecture I would encounter and the general layout of the area.  The history  provided helped in my awareness of spacial and design differences as each section of the cemetery is divided based on race, religion, and even occupation. Tombstone symbols, size, proximity- they were all architectural differences influenced by the...

Nonprofits Organizations in the Digital Environment

Schwartz, Nancy. “Nonprofit Video: 9 Steps to Nonprofit Marketing Success, Plus Our Mistakes to Avoid.” Nonprofit Marketing Articles. Getting Attention!, n.d. Nancy Schwartz is a business owner and blogger who offers consulting services on market and communications to nonprofit organizations. Getting Attention is her online news letter with tidbits and insights for marketing and currently helps a number of nonprofits. Her target audience being nonprofit organizations looking to learn better business technique and strategic networking to expand or become more efficient. Schwartz provides the reader with numerous sources and ways to learn from case studies  to articles she’s written formed from personal experience (primary sourcing). This particular article denotes the do’s and dont’s nonprofit organizations should follow to create a successful and impactful video as we are operating “in the age of Youtube.” Although this source was published a few years ago and the internet and its users have evolved the article provides tips that still hold true as the tips are broad. She provides a step by step list outlining objective, video content, importance on audience and how style and tone of the video might influence them. I found this all specially useful when analyzing the digital environment as the video was made by a nonprofit organization. It helps understand lenses- for example why was this music chosen, what does it say about the company, who does it appeal to?...

Internet Jargon Basics

“The Social Science Jargon Buster.” (2007): n. pag. Digital Strategy Consulting. Digital Strategy Consulting, 2007. Web. 28 Mar. 2016. <http://www.digitalstrategyconsulting.com/>. Digital Strategy Consulting is a web based advisement or consultancy in operation for the last ten years to help public and private businesses, agencies, and corporations “find the right digital strategy for their market and their customers.”  They provide training and research in the current digital market to help these businesses delve into the current market. They are targeting a wide audience as most of modern marketing is done on a digital platform so any business owner with  even a website is potential audience. The breakdown of “internet jargon” provided helps anyone delving into a digital space make sense of it with specific definitions of terms that you will find on a website. This helps with the technical side of the information you encounter, for example why an ad is there and how it is functioning when you see it. In terms of my own digital environment, this breakdown of jargon was more useful in analyzing Youtube as a whole. For example “targeting”  and “filtering” would explain why the video I chose was presented to me in the suggested videos list. It also helps organize the videos presented to me and I can make my own deductions of what my video relates to in the digital environment based on the suggestions that came up with...

Central Atlanta Progress, Inc

“Central Atlanta Progress | Atlanta Downtown Improvement District.” Central Atlanta Progress | Atlanta Downtown Improvement District. Central Atlanta Progress, Inc, n.d. Web. 25 Mar. 2016 <http://www.atlantadowntown.com/>. The Central Atlanta Progress, Inc., a private nonprofit group founded in 1941 that works in developing the downtown area through economic progress. Working in association with and funded by businesses of Atlanta CAP has been able to add to an extensive list of progress in the city. The website provides the reader with developmental plans the group has, maps of the city and neighborhood information for those looking to move to the city, gives information on destination spots, dining, and attractions for consumers looking to go out, and provides potential business partners and  council members information they need to join CAP or how to work with the organization. It was helpful as a resource in understanding The Real Downtown Atlanta  video posted to the AtlantaDowntown Youtube channel as CAP is the the sponsoring group. The “real downtown” is filtered by the area CAP works with,” 220 blocks within an area generally bounded by North Avenue on the north, Memorial Drive on the south, Piedmont Avenue and the Downtown Connector on the east, and the Norfolk-Southern rail line on the west.” The areas shown and people followed in the video cater to a white collar middle class and hide the homeless you might actually see while hanging out in Woodruff...

Interior Environment Annotations

Newhouse, Victoria. Towards a New Museum. New York: Monacelli, 1998. Print. Victoria Newhouse, published architectural historian and author of Towards A New Museum along with other works, has focused on examining spaces as they relate to audience, service they provide, and effectiveness among other things. Towards A New Museum particularly helps museum goers understand why the environment of an art museum is set up the way it is and how that affects not only them, but the museum’s success in its entirety. Newhouse’s perspective was extremely valuable as I entered a space that presents art freely to the public and how I analyzed the way the art was presented to me. Krauel, Jacobo. New Concepts in Museum Architecture. N.p.: n.p., n.d. New Concepts In Museums Architecture tackles the architecture of museums all around the world by photographer Jacobo Krauel. Throughout there are sketches, photographs, and small commentaries displaying the most avant-garde to modern minimalist. This seems important to analyze as each space is designed with specific purpose, but you have to analyze any and all details to understand the environment and why it functions as whichever museum. It is a helpful comparison for the small Atlanta Contemporary Art Center in which you find minute similarities in an urban revival...
