Built Environment Analysis

Terry Jordan Singh April 25th, 2016 Robin Wharton Built Environment Analysis     BUILT ENVIRONMENT ANALYSIS OF STUDENT HOUSING AND ITS NEGATIVE EFFECT ON ITS RESIDENCE The built environment of Student housing can have many different effects on the residents that occupy the campus. The effects may include benefits and positive opportunities; however, the negative consequences outweigh the benefits by far. The rhetoric of the interior built environment is made to get rid of the students that are influenced by the buildings different social amenities. The exterior built environment of student housing affects the students because it keeps them inside and away from the outside world.   The Interior of student housing differs people from the horrible environment that the exterior has to offer. Furthermore, inside of student housing is usually beautiful, clean and elegant looking to pull the student in.  All the amenities that housing offers keep students inside instead of outside. Student housing has many opportunities offered to their students; however, every day they miss out on great opportunities and begin to neglect the outside world due to the interior keeping them inside. Students usually are confined to the building and can’t actually go anywhere when staying on campus. Georgia state parking is very expensive, so it eliminates the incentive to bring your car on campus. Due to the lack of transportation students are trapped on campus and forced to have a “bridge” between them and the outside world. The loss of friend’s back home, the lack of communication with family, and the engaging activities are all put to a halt due to the lack of transportation...

Source of Evidence: http://sites.gsu.edu/bjulmisse1/2016/03/22/annotated-bibliography-7/ This is an image of the border between the slums of a colombian city and a rich section of the city. In his site description, Brandon uses it to argue his case that there is a clear disparity between the rich and the poor in the built environment and it certainly does works for his argument. However, i found that the image can also be used to highlight the negative impact this site can have on the mental health of that city’s citizens, particularly the ones that live in the slums, having to everyday look at the stark disparity between them and their rich neighbors just over the wall.     Source of Evidence: http://sites.gsu.edu/etalundzic2/2016/03/25/the-great-divide-annotated-bibliography-10/   This is an annotated bibliographic entry written by a Emir Talundzic which analyzes a blog written by Cecile Cremer that talks about the problem that arises when slum areas are ignored in mexican cities by the media, which only portrays the nice looking resorts. Again, this blog can be used to argue that the complete lack of attention toward fixing the slums can be detrimental to both the physical and mental health of those that live there because they continue to live in poverty and continue to have to deal with all the problems that arise from it.     Source of Evidence:http://sites.gsu.edu/bjulmisse1/2016/03/22/annotated-bibliography-7/ This entry is an annotated bibliography which analyzes an article written by Mark Lamarr which talks about the direct consequences the built environment can have on one’s physical health. And example that is highlighted is how the excessive use of cars and non-active use of...

Digital Environment Part #2

http://www.atlantaga.gov/index.aspx The site I am describing is the Digital Site of Atlanta.ga.gov. This site is located at the link above in blue. The site includes many links and ways to obtain information about Atlanta and anything that goes on here. The site is beautifully designed and easy to navigate for tourist. Most of the links relate to the tourist that are just visiting the city. The colors that are present is mostly blue accents, which is an easy color to look at and it makes the site overall appealing to the viewer. The way this website makes me feel is like everything is covered up, however. The site being how beautiful it is and how everything is catered to the tourist, suggest that they are not too worried about the residents of Atlanta looking at the website. This all goes to an argument about our built environment of Atlanta. The Environment has exquisite areas just like the website had gorgeous pages, but only when you click the links that the tourist will use. When you click links that residents of Atlanta use the site was plain and barely even used the blue accents. The digital, interior, and exterior built environment of Atlanta all make the tourist feel welcome and blind to the fact that many areas in Atlanta are considered poverty stricken neighborhoods. The built environment of the digital site was entirely changed when the user clicked on downtown events because that’s what most tourists are going to click. The page redirects the user to a sub-website that is beautifully designed. This goes to show that Atlanta is breathtaking at a close glance,...
