Built Environment Analysis: ATLwood

ATLWood Last month my friend and I went to see the premiere of Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice in the movie theater. At one point he said that he felt like he had seen some of the scenery before I turned to him and told him that he has, almost every day. The scene looked familiar because the skyline backdrop was of Atlanta. On the big screen, one can easily see views of 191 Peachtree tower, 1 Atlantic Center, and the big SunTrust Plaza building. This experience is one that will come to fruition much more in the coming years. For a long time Hollywood was the harborage for most of the top grossing movies not only in the country but in the world. In fact, according to Todd Cunningham who writes for thewrap.com, California produced 68 percent of the top 25 movies at the worldwide box office in 1997. In 2013, it was down to eight percent. The film industry has increasing grown over the past two decades, even despite the global recession, and more high budget movies are being shot than ever. These film bring a lot of money to wherever they are produced in the form of jobs to locals and simply spending money in the state. With the exodus of the film industry from Hollywood, Many states and countries are rushing to get in on the action. Georgia is one of the quickest to jump on the opportunity and also one of the most successful in doing so. Georgia has become increasingly attractive to the film industry since 2007 when they introduced the first...

Reading Summary of His & Hers

His and Hers by Suzanne Tick talks about gender equality globally but specifically in the fashion industry. We are now in a time where people identify with groups that they could never successfully do before while still being accepted by society. This new trend of new identities has challenged traditional companies. Tick says the reason for this is that a large percentage of companies are ran by men. Some of these men do not have the gender sensitivity or experience to accommodate the changing culture. Historically Men have dominated high ranking positions in offices and the offices have been built to support those high ranking men. Today the effects of the male centered office still linger. The technology is especially behind the times in terms of gender equality. Men account for 85% of the positions at the top companies are male. Tick then goes on to talk about what is currently happening to change these inequalities in the world. The first example she gives is Emma Watson who tried to get men to join the fight for gender equality. Emma Watson is an actress and a UN woman ambassador that is promoting the he for she movement. Work place hierarchies have started to come down as well. Office are being built to emphasize nature in a way that they never have before and also are being built to be more sustainable. Tick says that designers need to work harder than ever to incorporate gender sensitivity into their projects. Gender swapped roles and gender sensitivity is already being incorporated into the fashion industry. Change is more easily introduced into the...

Artifacts from r/Atlanta

In my built environment description all of my pictures were just screenshots of reddit. Unfortunately since reddit is a forum, most of the content and the experience comes from clicking on the links, viewing what was posted, and then reading the comments. So for the artifacts I will dive deeper into the subreddit. This is a picture of the most upvoted posts of all time on the subreddit. Most of these links are jokes or funny outlooks on Atlanta but they also have some serious ones. One of the most upvoted posts was one telling everybody that a fourteen year old girl was missing and asking everyone to upvote for visibility. I’m not sure of the post had any contribution but the girl was found. This is one of the most upvoted posts of all time as well. It is a picture of Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels riding around town in a zamboni. They were doing it for the movie Dumb & Dumber to but ended up making the day of a redditor at work. This post was submitted two years ago.   This is the comments section for the above previous picture about Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels. This is an archived posts because it was submitted so long ago. This means that no one can upvote or comment anymore. This is to prevent old post from being bumped up to the front page again. The comment section also shows how many people upvoted the posts and the percentage that the post was upvoted. This particular post was upvoted 2,378 times and 95% of users who voted...
