Atlanta-Based Learning Reflection

As we all know, when it comes to farms they always stink and have lots of bugs. The small farm which I volunteered in downtown was called Truly Living Well Urban Garden.  The purpose of this organization is to provide people with clean healthy food. They work really hard during the day to make sure all the tasks are done. Time management and having to do their jobs efficiently were two main factors which they had to keep up with everyday. They had plants which were known for their medicine and its healing effects. They also had flowers which were edible. While I was there, I was able to level out the soil and even it all out. I leveled the garden beds and made sure all the roots were taken out of the soil in doing so. This helps the soil to grow rich and healthy plants for them to bear fruit. I also experienced how farmers stay out in the sun for so long. One problem was that in some places the fertilizer was distributed unevenly so more plants might grow more in one area than the other. I was able to get an idea of how much fertilizer I should be putting on the soil to thrive. This organization does a really splendid job of making sure people get the healthy food that they need to eat.I might do volunteer work which would help bright up the lives of people. Specifically, hosting food packaging events for hungry children. I also wouldn’t mind delivering food to peoples houses. I would consult with a few friends who would be willing to devote their time for something...

Chapter 6 Reflection

Chapter 6 dealt with preparing yourself for success in college. Personally, it seems this chapter does in fact come at a time in the semester where things are really starting to ramp up with papers, midterms, and presentations all looming around the corner. The chapter emphasizes on maintaining a good study skills habit and make the right decisions when it comes to prioritizing your classes over other, less important things. I found the tips and tricks the chapter gave out to be useful, not in the sense that these study ideas had never occurred to me, but more than that, they reinforced that fact that these are indeed tips that work and that i should be doing them because so many of the places and persons I’ve asked for helped have echoed the same...

Chapter 6

In this chapter I learned the importance of having good test taking strategies and having the right preparation for an exam. During my high school years I was the type of person that could do well on a test or assignment without taking notes. I guess you could say I was more of an auditory learner. Now that college has hit I have tried to continue with my auditory learning style, but in college it does not really work as well and I had to find that out the hard way when I scored a 72 on my government exam. It was a tough lesson to learn, but it was needed. Since then I have started to take good notes in all of my lecture classes to make sure that I do well on my...

How I learn..

Overall, I am a kinesthetic learner, which means that I am hands on and learn more from examples and past experiences. I sketched a photo of hands to represent this. When I am able to connect things that I’ve experienced with things that I have learned it is able to stick and I always remember. Things such as field trips, tours,  real life examples, pictures and graphs, finding solutions to problems, and real life experiences help me grasp the necessary material.  When taking notes I like to sketch photos of what I may be studying. They may be stick people with key words from my assignment coming from their mouths or a house full of vocabulary words and short definitions, just really whatever helps the information stick.  Also, when i take notes they are usually limited because too many words at one time makes me lose focus. Asking questions helps me understand the material better too. For tests or exams I make my own test questions and try to answer without multiple choices and if it’s essays I just constantly rewrite the essay to remember it. This way of learning has always been how I learned at my best. I’ve never been able to just listen to a lecture because I am usually easily bored and...
